A Warm, Wonderful Shekou Winter Bazaar
Last Saturday’s Winter Bazaar had all of the festivity, the delicious foods from around the world, fun activities for the small kids with the help of the older kids, and the good feeling of members of an international community enjoying an afternoon together that we’ve come to expect of this important annual event.
The PSA planned and organized for success and the day was certainly successful by every measure. Next week they will be able to share the level of fund raising success, a very important facet of the overall mission of the Winter Bazaar as it provides significant help to some communities in need. I sold tickets for an hour so I know that the fund raising went well.
This year the day started with a Charity Fun Run sponsored by the European Chamber of Commerce. Plenty of people joined in the run around Jingshan neighborhoods. The weather couldn’t have been nicer for the hundreds of SIS folks who later turned out for The Winter Bazaar. That part was good luck or providence that we can be grateful for. But our big thanks have to go to all of the volunteers who made the day a reality.
I can’t imagine how much collective time went into planning, organizing people, decorating, and cooking for food booths with home-made goodies from at least fifteen countries. A huge thank to all of the moms and dads and teachers and students who made possible such a day of coming together to celebrate one another’s home nations and our collective international community.
