Shenzhen residents still needs practice in recycling garbage
Shenzhen residents knows that sorting recyclables from their garbage is good for the environment, but only 80 percent of them sort their garbage at home. Many of the residents admits that they have no time to sort and dispose of their garbage properly.
The statistics were gathered during a survey which involves 600 residents aged 18 to 35. Survey took place in the Futian, Longgang ang Bao’an Districts. 70 percent of the survey respondents were aware of sorting their recyclables but trash bins were not marked to indicate which was recyclable and non recyclable especially in community areas. A handful of residents sorted their garbage picking out the objects that can be sold like cans and plastic bottles.
Food waste from restaurants are collected and sold to pig farms, and there is no specials process in treating toxic wastes like batteries and paint cans. Residents who participated in the survey said that one problem could be the lack of awareness of environmental protection and residents were hoping that the government would spend time in making plans in promoting garbage recycling.
