Grade one celebrate Thanksgiving in style!
This year Thanksgiving was celebrated with a family picnic in the “secret garden”. With masses of food to choose from and family and friends to celebrate with, a good time was had by all.
When secretly eaves dropping, here are some of the comments that were heard….
Mrs Evans declared, “Thanksgiving is by far my favourite grade one celebration”.
Mr Dunseth and Ms Casey exclaimed, “Wow, look at all this food!”
And some parents talked about “what a great event to get people together, make new friends and see our children in action”.
Afterwards we talked in our classrooms about what Thanksgiving means to us. We are a community of people who have little in common with the history of Thanksgiving and yet it is a holiday that appeals to us in many ways…
Here are some of the first graders’ thoughts…
“We eat Turkey and we also celebrate thanksgiving and eat thanksgiving food” said Eva.
“Thanksgiving is about sharing food and blessing God for great traditions” said Garrett.
“Yesterday we had a Thanksgiving party at the secret Garden. I was excited that I can see my parents and choose whatever I want to eat” said Dain.
“Yesterday I had really fun in the secret Garden. I ate a lot of yummy food. The best food I had was Akemi’s mothers. She made Chicken meat” said Katie.
Jiseung said “I am thankful for my sister and family.”
Sunny said“I am thankful for SIS”
And Shiori said “I love Thanksgiving because we can play in the garden and we can eat food!”
A very happy Thanksgiving to you all!
