Higher quality gasoline sold at city service stations
After months of delay a higher quality of gasoline similar to the gasoline used in Europe that have the Euro IV Standard, is now sold at stations located in the city. The gasoline sold in service stations which have the National IV Standard is sold with the price equal to the National III Standard that have a higher sulfur content.
A pricing policy is still to be set for the cleaner fuel and is to be approved by the Guangdong provincial pricing department. For now the National IV Standard gasoline will be priced as same as the National III gasoline until a new price is approved. Fuel price of the higher quality fuel would increase by 200 yuan per ton if the new pricing policy is approved. When the new price is approved the National IV Standard gasoline No. 90 would be priced 0.14 yuan more than the National III No. 90 gasoline.
The introduction of the new gasoline was approved in June, and supply contracts were given to Sinopec, CNOOC and PetroChina. A couple of reasons delayed the implementation of the higher quality fuel, one was due to supply shortage and the other was because of the approval of the pricing policy. The cleaner gasoline will reduce vehicle sulfur dioxide emissions and will bring down total emissions to 95,000 tons a year.
