Homeless man gives to charityLi Yun a garbage recycler donated around 4,000 yuan to charity in the span of two years, had his story published in a local newspaper. Li is homeless and lives by collecting recyclables and lives in a temporary accommodation in a construction site.

Li came to Shenzhen in 1998 after serving the army, but was unable to find work. He lived in a vacant lot near Huanggang Park before it became a construction site where he was able to work for  1,000 yuan a month. Workers on the construction site was nice to him, building a temporary home and giving him meals. Li started donating to the Shenzhen Charity Association in 2008, he didn’t see it as a big deal, and he want to help dropout students to go back to school. He said they deserve a better life than me.

One builder in the construction site said Li is one nice person, ready to help others and not think about himself. He even gave his only two quilts to two homeless women in these cold days. Li caught public attention when his name was placed number two on the city’s 2nd charity awards, people asked about him but they only knew his name. Li made donations from September 1, 2008 to September 30, 2010 amount to 4,005 yuan. It not a large amount of money , it was the income he generates from collecting and selling the recycled garbage.

Li donates 100 yuan each time he visits the center and the biggest amount he gave was 600 yuan. Li visits at least two or three times a month, guards even thought he came and needing help became of his shabby clothes. A center employee once asked why not use the money on himself, Li said he liked it this way and he wanted children to study and live a better life.
