Police disbanded crime gangs in effort to fight crime
27 organized crime gangs were broken up by Shenzhen in 2010 in an effort to fight criminal activities. the arrests where mostly made in the Guangdong Province. City courts convicted more that 370 people that were connected in 22 cases of organized crimes.
In the crime crackdown, Shenzhen police confiscated around 18 pistols along with 73 rounds of ammunition and 50 vehicles, plus 22 million yuan in criminal proceeds was frozen. Shenzhen also arrested fugitives wanted in connections with grimes that happened in Macao and Taiwan. A senior official with the public security bureau criminal investigation department said that the Shenzhen police have netted five suspects on the most wanted list and 80 suspects involved in organized crimes have turned themselves in to the police.
Prosecutors have also filed charges to at least 261 suspects involved in manipulated gambling, prostitution and drug dealings. Suspects were also charged with intentional harm, bribery, swindling and organizing prostitution. Some public officials were also charged but no details were given. Prosecutors only know that the public officials are protecting the criminals to make extra money.
