Shenzhen to build care centers for the elderly
Shenzhen will do a trial run of the three day care centers for the elderly in the Luohu districts. The day care centers will be placed in Bibo, Shuiku and Yijing neighborhoods before it will be launched citywide. Day care center are usually 800 square meters wide and filled with various recreational facilities, dining areas libraries and kitchen.
One day care center can accommodate dozens of the elderly, and offer services like food delivery, sanitation, entertainment, daily care, nursing and medical needs, they also offer psychological consultations and exercise. The center in the Bibo will cater to residents aged 60 and over, plus disabled people over the age of 16.
The centers will hire laid off workers to work in the centers and services such as food delivery, health care will charge certain fees in accordance to government rules. Shenzhen have also announced a community service program for the year 2011 to 2015 with improved social services.
Under its program, the city will design and build community facilities with a ratio of 1 for every 20,000 residents. A family center will also be built to provide services for the elderly and the disabled.
