City making final changes to promote a successful Universiade Games
Shenzhen government have announced a package of measures in improving urban environment and civil qualities to show the world an international Shenzhen during the Universiade games. The measures was done yesterday to cover pollution reduction, street beautification and improvements in public security and civility.
Facades of buildings located on the city’s 240 main roads will be refurbished, ans well as traffic lights, public buildings, checkpoints, airports and railway stations. LED light decorations will be placed on road sides and median strips of Shennan, Beihuan, Sungang and Nanhai roads. The 9 kilometer coastal recreation belt in Shenzhen Bay Park will be completed by the end of June and will be the site for the Universiade opening ceremony. Urban management bureau will also be increasing the frequency of road cleaning and water courses.
The government is also keen on improving civil aspects to match city’s desire to become an international city. The Universiade games is expected to receive more than 10,000 athletes from different parts of the world. Still the city needs to improve their English speaking ability and civil quality. The government is also planning to make Saturday a queuing day in April to September to instill the habit of queuing up in public places in its residents.
When the voluntary service center will be completed in June the government is planning to recruit 250,000 volunteers and deploy them in 750 voluntary service centers to help promote the games.
