Mobile phones users gets mixed signals
Shenzhen residents mobile phones have been receiving signals from Hong Kong phone companies and many of them are being charged for roaming services. Most of phones that catches the signals are the ones used near border areas such as Houhai and Futian Free Trade Zone.
Some of the residents are getting the signal even in places such as Yuanling and Huaqiangbei. One resident spent 50 yuan in a few minute when calling a friend saying he found it strange when his provider China Unicom changed into a Hong Kong compnay in his mobile phone. Others were getting text messages from Hong Kong mobile provider CSL when taking the Metro in Houhai Station. The text welcomed them accompanied with a list of charges when using their mobile phones in Shenzhen.
A spokesperson for China Mobile said areas that are very close to Hong Kong can receive Hong Kong signals by accident, and if they have their international services activated the locals calls they are making can be charged as international calls. The solution for this problem is the mobile users is to deactivate the choose network automatically function on their mobile phones and choosing and activating their mobile providers manually.
