Talent Competition Final at The Culture Club

Talent Competition Final at The Culture ClubThe eagerly anticipated Culture Club talent competition final was held on Saturday night, and what a night it was.

Eight of the twelve heat winners came to perform and attempt to be crowned the Culture Club Champion, wild card entries were also awarded to two lucky losers from previous heats and to one lucky visitor meaning a total of eleven finalists. Our judges were Culture Club owner ‘Clarke’ and Shenzhen Dragons Rugby coach Mark.

I was compare for the evening and the crowds had gathered to witness a true musical spectacle.

First up was one of our lucky losers, TT. He sang Yellow and got us off to a flying start. Next up was Yoyo to sing a beautiful Chinese song called notebook. Yoyo received great support from her sister behind the bar, River.

Our next performer, I say performer because his Dance moves certainly outperformed his singing, was our second lucky loser Jamie. Jamie performed Suspicious Minds and Jamie had everybody on their feet with his amazing agility and dance moves.

Up stepped Alan to try and follow Jamie’s amazing performance and he did himself proud singing The Rose, a performance which would eventually see Alan finish in 5th Place, well done Alan.

Emma sang next, a Chinese song called Red Tool, Emma came last week to visit her sister Serena and was coerced into coming back for the final with her little brother David.

Our next performer came to Shenzhen to visit his mum, Jake. Jake sang Raised in to a man for his mum and put in an outstanding performance which would see him place in the top 3.

The next performance was one I had been especially looking forward to, seventeen year old David stepped on stage to beat box and put in an awesome performance and finished it off by singing Two worlds. Rugby player Chinese Jason was next to sing I will, Jason never stopped smiling all evening perhaps he knew his best friend was going to step up and steal the show next because following Jason was his best friend John to sing I really love you and play guitar. John put in an amazing performance which would see him place in the top three.

We had two competitors left and some would say you save the best for last but so far everybody had been amazing and every performance was better than the one those weeks before to get into the final with the bar been raised higher and higher as the evening progressed, could our next performers top what we had already witnessed, we were about to
find out.

Our penultimate performer was Nora to sing waiting on an Angel and you could hear a ping drop in the audience as she put in a truly wonderful performance accompanied by Jake on guitar. Our final performer Shelley had probably the hardest job of the night going last, following on from all the amazing performances we had seen and it is a fantastic credit to Shelley that she put in a beautiful rendition of Hero and had the audience dabbing there weeping eyes.

The singing now finished it was over to our judges to tally the scores which they did in a professional and speedy manner.

In joint third place were Shelley and Jake. Shelley won a meal for two at Cheers Bar in Shekou and a bottle of Russian Standard vodka, Jake won a large pizza at sidewalk café in Shekou and a bottle of Russian Standard vodka.

In second place was John winning a meal for two and drinks at Macawleys Bar and Grill in Futian.

Our winner and truly deserved was Nora, Nora won a Pizza and bottle of wine at Aulon in Shekou and a bottle of Russian standard vodka.

Congratulations and thanks to all our competitors, in all we had over 40 entries in the 4 heats so making the final itself was a great achievement.

Thanks to our sponsors, Aulon, Cheers Bar, Sidewalk Café, Macawleys, Russian Standard Vodka and the Culture club.

Thanks to our guest judge Mark ‘The Coach’.

I hope to see everybody again next week for open mic night, the culture club talent competition will be back again after Chinese new year with even more sponsors.
