Migrant workers to get free bus ride

Migrant workers to get free bus rideMigrant workers returning home can book a bus ride for free. In its fourth year now, the city’s civil affairs authority has organized a program wherein free bus tickets are provided for migrant workers returning home.

The Shenzhen Welfare Lottery Issuing and Circulation Center said migrant workers can book tickets through the radio program Pioneer 898 and text message to 106-2075-58 or call hotlines 2592-3037, 2592-3038 or 2592-3039. Bookings are on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those who have booked tickets can collect them starting Jan. 15 to 17 at the Yinhu Bus Terminal. The buses will depart Shenzhen from Jan. 22 to 24.

There will be 60 buses available with routes including Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Hainan, Jiangxi, Henan and Yunnan.

Since 2007, nearly 10,000 migrant workers had gone home for free because of this program. The city’s civil affairs authority had set aside 2 million yuan (US$302,115) from the public lottery fund this year to provide 2,630 free tickets for migrant workers returning home.
