Movie made people seek mole treatment
More people are visiting doctors at the Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital to have their moles treated. The numbers increased to 20 percent after more people watched the popular movie “If You Are the One II.”
People were worried that their moles will cause melanoma and may even become malignant, like the one that the character in the popular movie had. This made people rush to the hospital to have their moles treated or removed. The director of the hospital dermatology department said that people use to remove their moles to improve looks or for superstitious reasons, now they have it removed because they are worried about their health.
Doctors said that people should not worry to much on the moles found on their body since percentage of moles becoming malignant is very low. Out of 100,000 people only one has a malignant melanoma in china, and the disease is easily curable if treated in time. Melanoma is one of the less common type of skin cancer, bu one of the majority of causes of death from skin cancer. 160,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed each year in different parts of the world. Happens more on women rather than in men, common among Caucasians living in sunny climates.
Moles found on the hands, feet, nose and neck are prone to malignancy. People that have moles in these areas can have them examined to see if it needs to be removed. Removing moles with laser will not prevent a malignant change since it only removes the surface. Cells still remain in the skin with the risk of changing.
