University construction approved by the Ministry of Education
The construction of the South University of Science and Technology of China has been approved by the Ministry of Education. The Ministry also confirmed that the university will be a public university and the first phase of construction will be completed by 2012.
The ministry approved the university planning and construction during a meeting in Beijing last September and the plans and construction documents were sent to the Guangdong Provincial Government last December 24. Even when its not yet authorized, the university have accepted students for enrollment last September, when the enrollment procedures were still under discussions.
Shenzhen will also set regulations the will provide legal safeguards for enrollment in the university, while the university is confirming its final enrollment list during the winter vacation and 50 students in the first semester is expected to start in the coming spring. The university will be accepting students for experimental classes when they complete two years of high school. Costs is expected to reach around 2.4 billion yuan. Zhu Qingshi, the university president also confirmed that since this move is a reform in Chinese education, the Ministry of Education is yet to approve the university’s diploma.
