Bus lane networks to be introduced to ease traffic congestion
To ease traffic congestion in Shenzhen a bus lane network is needed. A deputy of the municipal people’s congress Yang Qin submitted a proposal, along with 20 other deputies requesting a meeting with the transport bureau to ask questions regarding the city’s transport system.
Low efficiency and shortage of bus routes have been a problem especially for residents living in the Longgang and Bao’an districts, another reason for passenger difficulties are the increasing number of private cars. Creating a network for buses will ensure faster running and improved route efficiency. This will also make it easier for people to travel by bus. Although bus lanes have been existing in Shenzhen it is still not good enough.
A bus normally drive fast in one section of a road but recently have slowed down when buses arrives in a different section or intersection. Creating the bus lane network, buses can travel faster during the whole journey. Motorists and residents can take the bus because it will be faster that driving and will ease traffic congestion.
The transport bureau said that they were already planning a bus network that will connect main roads within this year. the planning details are being discussed by transportation professionals in Beijing. 6 million people are taking buses to work everyday, its a major problem since most of the residents are living far from their work. Shenzhen also signed a contract with the Ministry of Transport to become a city of public transport, and detailed plans are being prepared and the city is just waiting for the government and ministry approval.
Additional 113 bus routes will be added to the Bao’an and Longgang districts and 1,000 buses that are faster to be commissioned to further improve efficiency.
