Part time workers filled in for workers that went home for Spring Festival
In a rush to finish Spring Festival orders, factories are hiring part time workers since a large number of migrant workers went home to celebrate the Spring Festival in their homes. Clothing factories were the ones who hired the most part time workers because of the strong demand.
Part time workers are paid more than full time workers but lack in skills, still factories have no choice but to take the part time workers to catch up with orders. A woman in charge of recruitment in an electronic factory said 180 of their employees left in December to go home to provinces to celebrate Spring Festival. even with offers of higher wages didn’t even keep the employees, a lot of them insisted of going home to celebrate the festival. So factories turn to part time workers in case when they are needed.
Migrant workers usually go home two or three days before the Spring Festival, but since it was hard to get train tickets a majority of workers decided to quit and gone home early to celebrate and spend more time with their family. Homesickness and the rising cost of living in Shenzhen is also a reason why migrant workers go hometown and to look for jobs there because cost of living is much lower.
