Shenzhen social work garnered national awards for contributions to the city
The Shenzhen civil affairs bureau won the national awards for their social work done in the city. The bureau chief Liu Runhua was chosen also as one of the country’s top 10 social workers of the year, for his contribution to move forward the development of Shenzhen social services and his commitment to his work.
Liu was appointed head in 2007 and lead a special task force in building a citywide social service network. He was also responsible in setting up the registration system for social workers when social work became a full time operation. Shenzhen is well known for its non-government social work activities. organizations like this are working independent of the government and the government just pay for their social services.
Liu said the award is a great acknowledgment of his work and the city social work have great achievements under his watch. The city social service center have 425 social workers opened near the Longhua complex of electronics giant Foxconn after a number of suicides happen last year. the center provided counseling to the workers and doing this it was among the nations top ten social work achievements.
The city will be building 100 community social service center, and the city government will be giving each center 500,000 yuan as their operating expenses. Liu hope to have 700 social centers by the year 2015.
