Airline upgraded to new star ranking
During a ceremony yesterday, Skytrax announced that China Southern Airlines have been upgraded to four star status for this year 1011. China Southern Airlines is the second Chinese airline to receive such status.
China Southern Airline is the world’s 5th largest airline and Asia’s largest airline in terms of both fleet size and passengers carried. It is also the 4th largest airline in the world in domestic passenger traffic and 6th largest in scheduled domestic passenger flown. The airline flies to 162 destinations using a fleet of 342 aircraft, from its main hubs at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport.
Skytrax is a London based research and certification company for the aviation industry, that evaluates 200 airlines around the world every year to check service quality. The CEO of Skytrax Edward Plaisted said new product quality standards for long haul international routes by the A330 airplanes was behind the upgrading of the airlines star ranking.
Star ranking depends on customer experience, and its not just the platform for product standards such as seating, in flight entertainment and food offered by the airline but assessment of its service quality. Ranking uses a rating system from 800 different areas of services and products fro each airline. Star rating for airline industry can be one to five stars with five stars as the highest rating to be given to any airline.
