Reunion dinners to cost more this year
Having a Spring Festival reunion dinner is going to cost people more with most restaurants imposing minimum charges as high as 8,000 yuan per table. This is an increase of at least 25 percent more over the same period last year.
The sharp increase was mainly because of the increase of food prices and the demand of more families decided to celebrate reunions in restaurants. Last year ten people having dinner in a restaurant costs around 1,500 yuan, this year it will cost 2,000 yuan for ten people having the same type of meals. Expensive restaurants are becoming more popular when it comes to reunion dinners and these restaurants only have a few tables left. A ten person table at the Futian Shangri-La hotel has a minimum charge of 2,500, while Pavilion Hotel have a 6,800 yuan minimum charge for one room. The highest minimum charge is at the Kempinski Hotel which is set at 8,888 yuan.
Smaller restaurants are promoting reunion dinners at 700 to 1,000 yuan, some are offering set dinners at 700 and 800 yuan and this type of dinners are also popular since the cheap price and special local cuisine attracts diners. Restaurants used to have three sittings with the first one starting at 4:00 to 7:00 pm, now because more people are eating out the first sitting will start at noon.
