Motorists receiving text messages warning them of violations
Thanks to text messages that served as a warning device launched by the Shenzhen traffic police, motorists paid 10 million yuan lesser in fine for minor traffic violations. Traffic police texted 397,000 messages for minor traffic violations, which includes illegal parking.
If motorists were not warned it could have mean the city could have incurred 10 million yuan in fines. The service was aimed to reduce the number of traffic violations in the city. Drivers are warned from minor violations such as changing lanes illegally, failing to use seat belts, or using their mobile phones while driving their vehicles. drivers parking illegally will be given ten minutes to move their car before being issued a traffic citation.
Three text messages warnings a year are allowed per driver for minor violations that they commit. The warnings doesn’t apply to violations on parking illegally on expressways and trunk roads. The city traffic congestion is becoming serious with 600 new vehicles on the road each day since last year.
