City faces blood shortage
Even with people donating a lot of blood during the Spring Festival holidays, Shenzhen is still facing a shortage of the following blood types namely Type A, O and AB. Last week around 100,000 milliliters of blood were donated, and the number is expected to increase when people return from the holidays.
Shenzhen Blood Center said that there should be a reserve of at least 300,000 milliliters of blood of every type, but since January blood types A, O and AB were at the 100,000 milliliters mark. If an emergency situation will happen the blood center won’t be able to supply enough blood. The shortage happen when most of people went home to celebrate the holidays, and several hospitals in Shenzhen had major operations in which patients used up a lot of blood therefore aggravating the shortage.
People in Shenzhen are generous donators of blood, every time there is a shortage a lot of people will donate without hesitation. Some even believe that donating blood during the Spring Festival will be meaningful and doing good deeds will bring them luck for the new year.
