Flu virus takes first casuality in the city
The city now has it first casualty from the A/H1N1 flu virus, while another patient is in serious condition and is currently being treated in Nanshan District. The unidentified man died at the Shenzhen No. 6 People’s Hospital.
The city’s center for disease control and prevention said that the man arrived in Shenzhen last January 11 to visit his family and was showing signs of respiratory illness. He visit the hospital on January 21 for treatment and has then diagnosed with the A/H1N1 flu virus which is also known as swine flu. His condition turned to worse and died the following day. In the same hospital another patient was also diagnosed with the virus and is currently on life support.
The CDC said that the incidence of the virus is higher than last year, and Shenzhen is now entering the peak influenza season, acute cases of the A/H1N1 will occur as more people are returning from the holidays. The center is advising all to get vaccinated to protect them from the virus and to try to stay warm as the temperatures are expected to drop in the weekend.
