New regulation prohibits apartments to be divided among tenants
Last February 1 a new regulation took effect prohibiting apartments to be divided to accommodate more tenants. The new regulation will push rent up to 5 percent more. The regulations also prohibits landlords from leasing their basements and balconies.
Rent ares has to be no less than 6 square meters, this mean that a 50 square meter apartment should have no more than 8 tenants. Offenders caught breaking the new regulations will be fined from 5,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan.still some people prefer to have co-tenants since it will lessen the cost of rent for them.
The new regulation will force the rent up since a lot of people are coming to Shenzhen after the Spring Festival holidays to look for work. The rent for a three bedroom apartment cost around 4,000 yuan. One tenant said that he is paying 850 yuan for a 10 square meter room in an apartment with one kitchen and one bathroom. Tenants in the apartment usually take turns in using the kitchen and bathroom. He said raising rent will be a burden to them.
