New ruling allows family members to share medical insurance

New ruling allows family members to share medical insuranceUnder a new ruling Shenzhen residents that are covered by the city medical insurance will be able to share with their insured family members the use of their insurance account cards if their balances exceeds their monthly salary.

Last year the average monthly salary in the city is around 3,800 yuan, this means that residents can pay for medical expenses with balances above 3,800 yuan in the insurance cards of their family members. Social insurance authority will be setting up a database that is associated with the insurance cardholders and their covered family. Before the database is used, insured residents usually pays the registration fees at hospitals and clinics from their own pockets, now that can pay using the cards of family member to pay the bills.

They only need to endorse their names and their relationship with the card holder and telephone number in the prescriptions and receipts. Foreign nationals and other people from Macao and Hong Kong that are covered by the city medical insurance can also benefit from this extended medical services. School children and college students that are covered by social insurance can now also benefit from the policy. Before they can only transfer to hospitals that are designated by the social insurance company, now they can freely choose the hospital themselves.
