Learning Comes Alive for SIS Parents
Learning is what SIS is all about and parents are at the heart of their children’s learning. That is the reason for Learning Comes Alive events, times dedicated to opening the classrooms for parents to witness and participate in the normal activities of the school day.
Each division holds one of these events. Last month Elementary homerooms and earlier in the year Elementary specialists invited parents to spend a morning with their children. The turnout for these events was impressive and both the children and the parents enjoyed the opportunity to experience school together.
Elementary parents who attended last month’s Elementary event spent the Literacy Block with their sons and daughters. They listened to students talking about what they were writing and the books they were reading. They got a chance to read with the children and to ask about them about their writing.
The parents of High School students have had an opportunity to experience a day in the life of a student when Learning Comes Alive happened on February 17th. Middle School plans a similar day on March 3rd and ECLC on Saturday, March 12.
The learning activities that SIS students engage in are rich and complex as well as being active and interesting. That’s the way it is everyday because learning comes alive is the norm in SIS classrooms.
