Drivers of blue plated vehicles that have ten seats of more can now register and apply for a yellow plates so they can be allowed to use bus lanes during the rush hours. The drivers can go to any police plate registration and management office to apply for the yellow plates.
The driver will then be allowed to use the bus lanes from 7:30 am and 9:30 am, then from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm during the weekdays. The other vehicles will be restricted and police will also designate double bus lanes on some busy roads. These changes are meant to improve bus efficiency and to encourage enterprises and other institutions to use regular buses to transport their employees, therefore reducing commuting costs and save road resources.
Before only buses and vehicles that have 20 seats or more were allowed to use the bus lanes. Public buses were also forbidden to occupy other lanes, except only when they are turning right of left. More designated bus lanes will be built in the Longgang and Bao’an districts and also at the Guangming and Pingshan new zones.
