High School Musical, “Grease”
Twenty-two Bayside High School students will be performing in the musical “Grease” on March 10, 11, and 12 in the Bayside Amphitheatre. The musical depicts high school life in the U.S. in the 50’s and addresses many issues faced by teenagers still today, in a comical and lighthearted way.
Putting on a full-scale musical in a school our size has it’s challenges. Many of the students in the cast also participate in sports, Student Council, and other activities, so finding time to rehearse has been tricky. Fortunately Mr. Breen has been very supportive of the show and has encouraged the coaches to be flexible with the student’s time so that they are able to be fully committed to the musical in these important final weeks.
I direct the show, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of several other teachers. Ms. Sarah Leonardis (M.S. drama and humanities teacher) has been extremely helpful to the process. She is in charge of props and stage crew, and has assisted the actors in many hours of rehearsals. Mrs. Aleisa Dunn (M.S. humanities teacher) has worked with student Angel Chui to create and teach the choreography. Mrs. Sonya Neinhuis (M.S. humanities teacher) is in charge of costumes.
In addition to the staff listed above, several teachers (along with students Brunno Soares and Dong Min Park) make up the “pit band” and have been rocking the Bayside music wing for several weeks in preparation. Mr. James Anderson (Parkside music teacher) is on drums, Mr. Scott MacDonald (M.S. Math and Science teacher) is on keys, Mr. Thomas Galvaz (H.S. Psychology and Tech) is on guitar, Mr. Mark McElroy (H.S. Science and Econ) is on guitar and also makes a guest appearance on the stage! Under the direction of Dr. Cody Gifford, this band is seriously going to rock the campus!
Undoubtedly you are all anxiously awaiting this performance and want to know how to obtain tickets for this exciting event! Tickets will be 50 RMB, with all proceeds going to help fund the production. They will be available at the front desk of all three campuses starting next week.
