Painters wall galleries to remain

Painters wall galleries to remainAn official notice issued last month which ordered the demolition of the painters wall along Shenhui Road in efforts to beautify the area in time for the summer Universiade. Painters in the village uses the wall to hang their paintings which they pay rent of 600 to 1,500 yuan.

The notice stated that the painters can either leave voluntary or be forced to leave. But after hearing that the painters had no plans to leave, lead the sub-district office to deal with the wall galleries by setting up an oil painting supermarkets were the painters can relocate and hang their painting up for sale. For now they will be allowed to stay in the oil painting village for the time being until such time the place for them is ready.

The sub-district office held meetings to discuss the issues and decided to keep the wall as is. But other illegal construction located near Shenhui Road such as dilapidated billboards, unlicensed roadside stalls and illegal wire connections are subejct for demolition. The painters were happy that the government listened to their pleas to keep the wall and didn’t force them to leave and most of the painters were back to displaying their paintings after three days of not being allowed to hang any paintings.

The Dafen Oil Painting Village is only .4 square kilometers and home to 800 galleries, 80 painting companies and around 8,000 painters.
