Companies caught dumping untreated waste
Two companies in the Bao’an District will be fined after being caught dumping waste water. A six member inspection team conducted a surprise inspection and was able to catch one company located in the industrial park in Shanjing was dumping untreated waste water.
Upon inspection the saw that the factory’s waste water treatment facilities were not being utilized and that the factory was directly dumping into storm drains. The factory is now fined for dumping untreated waste water and its waste discharge license revoked. The inspection team encountered trouble in the other factory caught dumping waste water, the security staff didn’t allow the teams to come in and inspect they even cut off the electricity to the factory to discourage the team from entering.
Factory staff also threaten the team to delete the pictures that they were taking of the factory. The factory now is facing administrative charges for illegally expanding manufacturing. The city environment commission is stepping up on their activities in cracking down on enterprises that are polluting the environment since the Universiade games are almost near.
The offending companies are the first ones to taste the punishment imposed by the city’s environmental protection regulations, that were once applied to the old special economic zone.
