University offering free education to migrant workers
Beijing University held a enrollment examination to more than 1,715 migrant workers in eight cities across the province. the examinations were in part of their plan to help young migrant workers to receive higher education.
220 young migrant workers aged between 18 to 24 attend an enrollment examination in Shenzhen, in hopes to receive free remote education from Beijing University. Some of the workers also came from Dongguan, Huizhou and Heyuan. Each of the workers must choose at least three subjects to take, the subjects to be chosen are Chinese, mathematics, politics, English, accounting and administration management.
343 migrant workers showed outstanding performances in the examinations will be interviewed online on March 20, the second round of face to face interview will be done in March 26. 100 workers that will pass the examinations will receive remote education for free, while the remaining who passed will only have to pay around half of the university’s tuition fees. After they finished their studies with the university, they will be receiving bachelors’ degree.
