No fireworks display during the Universiade Games
The city government have decided to do a economical, low carbon and environmentally friendly Universiade, so the city decided that there will be no fireworks displays during the opening and closing ceremonies.
Fireworks are a popular way of celebrating national and international celebrations, such as the Beijing Olympics, Shanghai Expo, and Guangzhou Asian Games. The Shenzhen Universiade will be different since they will not have fireworks to celebrate their event. Even transferring the opening and closing ceremonies from Longgang Sports Center to Shenzhen Bay Sports Center and the Windows of the World Park showed how determined the city government is in making the Universiade games economical and thrifty.
The Shenzhen Bay Sports Center and Windows of the World are along the Shennan Boulevard that displays the city’s urban scenery, and by doing the closing ceremony at the Window of the World will create a carnival like atmosphere for the athletes to celebrate.
The 26th Summer Universiade is expected to have around a total of 13,000 athletes, coaches and guests that will be participating in 306 sports events in 24 categories.
