Restaurant supplies coming from different countries
Japanese catering businesses in Shenzhen is feeling the effects of the recent nuclear emergency that happened in Japan, with fewer residents going out and dining at Japanese restaurants. The numbers of people eating at Japanese restaurants have dropped more than half.
People now are becoming cautious eating at Japanese restaurants after reports for food being tainted with radiation was reported in Japan even with the repeated guarantees from Japanese restaurants owners that the seafood they are using are coming from other countries and it safe to consume. One restaurant owner said it hard to import food from Japan after the earthquake because they are in short supply of food themselves and restaurant owners don’t want to risk bringing in seafood from Japan since they are already losing a lot of customers even with constant assurance of their food being safe.
Japanese restaurants are now buying their supplies from other countries such as Australia, Canada, Scotland and Norway. The quality of the goods are just as good as the Japanese imports but its a little more expensive since supply is short. Even with the price increase on food supply, restaurant owners still maintain their prices because they can not afford to lose their remaining clients.
If this continue many of the small Japanese eateries might be forced to close because of higher costs and fewer patrons coming in to eat.
