Revised regulations on smoking ban to take effect soonThe new regulation banning smoking in enclosed public areas will take effect on May 1. This new regulation was added to the regulations on health management in public places.

The new smoking regulation showcase the government’s effort in intensifying tobacco control in China. The revised regulations stipulates that owners of establishments must set up non-smoking signs, do promotions that will warn people on the dangers of smoking. Owners should also tell their employees to discourage anyone to smoke in their places.

An official for the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control says that cigarette vending machines should not be placed in public areas to deter anyone from buying and smoking in public areas. As of now there are 300 million smokers in China and a very large percentage of non smokers are exposed to secondhand smoke  especially in places like restaurants, schools and hospitals.
