Store owners in Huaqiangbei are enjoying the brisk business of selling radiation detectors since almost everyone is buying detectors ever since the aftermath of Japan’s nuclear disaster. A radiation detector, is a device used to detect, track, and/or identify high-energy particles, such as those produced by nuclear decay, cosmic radiation, or reactions in a particle accelerator.
Around 20 radiation detectors were sold in just a few weeks, when radiation contamination scare was reported all over the news, and most of the buyers were Japanese living in Shenzhen or Chinese people that have Japanese friends. Some of the buyers are residents living in the northeastern coast that is near to Japan.
Before the nuclear incident most radiation detectors were bought by hospital radiology departments and research institutes. Now almost everybody is rushing to buy one. Right now there are ten kinds of radiation detectors are on sale that can be used individually, with price ranges at 300 yuan to 5,500 yuan.
