New regulations to control employment of foreigners
In the city’s effort to crack down illegal immigration, Guangdong Province implemented a new regulation effective on May encourages people to report any malpractice such as illegal entry, overstaying unlicensed businesses and working without permits that involves foreigners.
The new regulation was approved by the central government and placed on their website, is the first regulation that will manage foreigners on the mainland. The new regulation stated that no one should allow or provide any foreigner work or accommodations if they are suspected to have overstayed or holds an invalid passport. Those caught violating will be fined. The regulation was created when a number of foreigners were seeking trade opportunities and employment in Guangdong.
Regulations states that any employer caught providing work to a foreigner without proper permits will be fined 3,000 yuan. Companies or individuals that also provide accommodations and bank records for for foreigners that don’t have valid documents will be fined 10,000 yuan.
There are 63,000 permanent foreign residents living in Guangdong that are registered, and 4 million are visiting the province annually. Since then a growing number of illegal immigrants are staying to find work in the province, and some companies in Guangdong are found to illegally employing foreigners from Vietnam and Myanmar because of the cheap labor.
