Poetry Month Continues…
How does this poem affect me?
Why do we read poems?
These are some of the essential questions that have been considered as middle-school students jumped back into classes after a week of spring break and right into Poetry Month.
During the month of April, poetry is being studied and celebrated throughout SIS. In the middle-school, students have had the opportunity to read, analyze, create, perform, and illustrate a variety of poems in collaborative, teacher-led and independent learning stations.
Like a poem itself, these learning centers bring together many ideas and features of poetry, including poetry techniques, figures of speech, sound, rhyme, and forms of poetry. In addition to strengthening reading and writing skills, studying poetry can help students discover their own meaning and feeling in what they have read, created and performed.
Parents, keep your eyes and ears open for some amazing student created poems this month!
