China Branch of Lions Club International Organized Free Surgery
Lions Club International China Branch organized a free surgery to cataract patients in Kenya with a total of 17 voluntary surgeons during a charity tour last March 18-25. The volunteers, teams from Shaanxi Province and Xi’an, including seven eye doctors from Shenzhen’s No. 2 People’s Hospital participated in conducting intraocular lens implantation and cataract extraction to more than 50 patients in the Western area of East African country.
Aside from conducting free surgery, local hospitals was given medical equipments, and conduct free trainings to local doctors on how to administer surgery. More than 80 volunteers and doctors was sent by the China branch of Lions Club International to the African countries such as Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania which have high rates of cataract patients.
This is the first time for China branch to join the U.N. in assisting medical services, assess health changes and food distribution in Africa. Most of the volunteers with the Lions Club in China are from the province of Zhejiang and Shaanxi, Shenzhen, Beijing, Dalian, Shenyang cities.
