Working hard toward the IB Diploma
Anyone attending last Friday evening’s Art and Music Show had to come away with a real appreciation for the creative accomplishments of our students. The art represented what SIS students are doing at all grade levels. A variety of entertaining musical performances by Middle and High School students filled the gallery setup at Bayside with sound.
This was also an opportunity for our first IB Diploma Art Candidates to display their work. The products were impressive but IB students also need to communicate their process, the what, why, and how of the work they have created. It was clear from looking at research journal entries and talking to students that they are well on their way to a successful culmination of the two year course around this time next year.
Two years ago, after several months study and consideration, SIS decided to pursue authorization as an IB Diploma School. Last year at this time, the school received that authorization. This year, the 11th grade class is our first IB “cohort”. They are working hard with their teachers to be successful next year as the first SIS IB Diploma recipients.
The decision to open this path to SIS students was based on the high degree of alignment between what the school values and what the IB Diploma program offers. It is rigorous but designed to be within the reach of all of our learners. It is international and focuses on the development of person as a well-rounded, inquiring, analytical, caring global citizen. A perfect match for SIS.
