Vehicle Restrictions Imposed During the Universiade
Starting August 4th to the 24th, Shenzhen traffic police will begin imposing traffic controls that will restrict vehicles and will use the odd and even scheme to control the flow of vehicles on alternating days.
The traffic restrictions will be imposed from 7 am to 8 pm in the business districts of Longgang and Bao’an districts, plus some roads will also be included in the restrictions, namely Shuiguan Expressway, Qingping Expressway, Yanba Expressway and Bao’an Boulevard. The ban will extend to midnight during the opening and closing dates of the Universiade games.
The traffic rules will keep around 600,000 vehicles off the road during the busiest moments of the games. Yellow labeled vehicles are also banned in July and drivers caught entering any restricted areas are subjected to emission tests, if they fail they are subjected to a 300 yuan fine. Government vehicles are also restricted and the public is asked to take public buses and the metro system to help relieve traffic congestion and improve air quality.
The city will assign a special vehicle lane, this will include Qingping Expressway, Nigang and Xinzhou roads, Beihuan and Binhe boulevards to be used exclusively by vehicles that are used by athletes and other participants of the Universiade games.
