Dirty air conditioners poses a health threat to employees
Dirty air conditioners are a health threat to office employees, and 99 percent of the air conditioning systems are not getting serviced regularly, according to a survey conducted by the city’s political advisers.
A number of people are starting to experience health problems such as nasal congestions, nausea, tinnitus, stinging eyes, skin allergies and dry cough. The problems increased to almost 20 percent because of these unserviced air conditioners. City health authority said the poor cleaning of air conditioners are due to the high cost of cleaning.
Cleaning of a central air conditioning system can cost up to 25 yuan per square meter. Total area to be cleaned for a centralized air conditioning system is half of the total construction area of a building. The 42 story Shenzhen Press Tower cost 500,000 yuan to be cleaned. The high cost is due to the cleaning companies need to buy expensive cleaning equipment to use and hire professioals to do the cleaning.
A licensed company needs to have four sets of cleaning equipment that cost more than one million yuan, and the companies need to hire a professional cleaner and pay them 3,000 yuan and this doesn’t include the training and qualification fees that the company needs to pay.
A cleaning company ususally makes at least 2 million yuan in a year with a 20 percent margin of profit.
