Drunk driving cases to be dealt quickly by prosecutors
The Shenzhen police, prosecutors, will establish a joint mechanism and judges that will ensure that drunk drivers will be properly charged for any offenses they have incur. The announcement was made yesterday after drivers were detained in just a week after the new law was released.
Since May 1, 14 drunk drivers were apprehended and are now detained awaiting charges. They will be charged according to the new law that modified drunk driving penalties making them a criminal offense. The drivers can be charged from a month and up to six months from the previous charges of 15 days detention. Diao Guangdong, head of the anti drunk driving brigade said tat the new law is effective since there was a significant decrease in the amount of offenses since it was imposed.
Local courts have already set up special tribunals that will deal with all the drunk driving cases that is set their way by the traffic police. Prosecutors and police have already reached a agreement to deal with all these cases as quickly as possible. To make things more efficient police units assigned different districts can handle all drunk driving cases directly.
