When I first came here 8 years ago, I was fascinated by SeaWorld. All those restaurants, the little outdoor market, the games, the four wheeled bicycles and all that space to run and play!
One particularly rainy year, a typhoon came and caused an enormous flood in front of the boat! My mom was coming back from a party; the water came up to her knees. The gigantic flood caused a terrible disaster. Lots of restaurants had been flooded and rescue workers in inflatable rafts were searching for victims.
When my mom came back, she showed us pictures from the flood. I said to myself, “All those poor Chinese people with maybe no more houses or businesses!” I really wanted to help them, but I couldn’t do anything. I thought about what it would be like, being like those people who lost everything.
The city of Shekou made everything better in SeaWorld. Life was easy once again. I had waited a long time for the Year of the Rabbit to arrive. My brother was born during the Year of the Rabbit, so I wanted to buy him a rabbit made out of clay. In the beginning of the year, when nothing was in construction, there was a humongous market in the middle of the restaurants. I knew just where to buy the rabbit. It cost RMB25 but I bargained and got it for RMB10! Yeah! Luckily, I bought it just in time because soon after, all of that humongous market was gone. SeaWorld suddenly turned into an immense hole. I wasn’t sure how I felt. I was angry and surprised at the same time.
Now it’s time for my life to change. We are moving. My mom said we can come back and visit and see how Shenzhen has changed. Now that is something I can look forward to!
