New Metro Lines to Start Construction in September
Five new metro lines will begin construction this Spetember after the third phase of the plans for the Shenzhen Metro lines 6,7,8,9,11 were approved by the Central Government. The new metro lines will run 170 kilometers and will have 95 stations, and said to be completed by 2016 at the cost of 80 billion yuan.
When the new Metro lines are completed, the Metro network will be around 348 kilometers. The metro line 11 starts from Futian and runs 51 kilometers towards Songgang in Bao’an. It will run though three districts including Nanshan and connects to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, Bao’an CBD and Shenzhen Airport.
Line 9 runs 25 kilometers and covers Xiangxi Vilage in Luohu District to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint. Line 7 runs 30 kilometers and runs from Tai’an in Louhu to Shenzhen Safari Park and passes through downtown Shenzhen and Taoyuancun residential area. Line 6 comes from Shenzhen North railway Station to Songgang in Bao’an District and goes to Shiyan Subdistrict and Guangming New Zone.
After Metro Line 8 tourists can take maglev trains from the International Trade Plaza in Louhu to Xiaomeisha beach. The 26 kilometer line will cover Liantang in Louhu, Shatoujio and downtown Yantian. In the central government letter of approval, the National Development and Reform Commission required Shenzhen government to improve the city’s Metro network layout and optimize its conection with bus terminals, car parks and other types of transport facilities.
