Chauffeur services on the rise since new rules were implemented
Since the new law of making drunk driving a criminal offense was passed, a lot of car leasing companies have seen their chauffeur services increased to 500 booking in one that compared to the 400 bookings before the new law was passed.
One company even hired more chauffeurs and is planning to hire more to cope up with demand. One driver was even posting service information in the internet and gets around three bookings a day, and more customers are calling up to asked more about his services.
Some people are not using chauffeurs because of its high costs. Designated drivers usually charge depending on the type of car they are driving. The usual rate is around 100 to 120 yuan for the first ten kilometers the an additional charge of 2 to 3 yuan per kilometer added. Drivers also add 8 to 10 yuan for every ten minutes when they are asked to wait. The car owner pays fuel and toll fees.
But some prefer taking the taxi instead of getting a chauffeur. One motorist said one usually pays around 150 yuan for a distance of 20 kilometers and a round trip taxi is around 110 yuan, however there are risks involved since there is no regulations controlling this type of business. There are no contracts signed between the driver and passenger, meaning if anything should happen no one can take responsibility during accidents.
