Police Arrest Suspects Connected in Making Fake Liquor

Police arrested suspects connected in making fake liquorBeijing police detained 11 suspects  connected in distribution of fake foreign liquor to bars and nightclubs, with more than 10,000 bottles confiscated.

Among the liquor confiscated were bottles of whiskey, such as Chivas, Johnnie Walker and Jack Daniel’s in raids in six different manufacturing areas in Beijing. The fake liquor makers supposedly bottle cheap liquor and industrial alcohol like methanol in to the labeled bottles of well known labels of whiskeys.

A fake bottle of whiskey will only cost 10 yuan to produce, makers of the liquor can then rake in profits by selling the liquors for up to 580 yuan a bottle. Police also said that some of the fake liquor is adulterated whiskey mixed with green tea and erguotou, a cheap chinese alcohol. Manufacturers also said that 90 percent of the buyers of the alcohol couldn’t tell the real bottle from the fake one.
