Monitoring system installed to check green vehicles
20 automatic monitoring systems are installed by the police that are capable of detecting vehicles without green labels from entering restricted areas. 12 of them are located in Shennan Boulevard and the others are scattered in throughout Sungang, Shangbu and Xinzhou roads and one in Nanhai Boulevard.
These tougher regulations is the city’s way in restricting vehicles from entering the city to help improve air quality and relieve traffic congestion during the Universiade games. Yellow labeled vehicles caught entering the city restricted roads will be fined 300 yuan. Owners of vehicles that does not have either yellow or green labels will be fined 1,000 yuan.
Owners of vehicles without green labels can apply at any inspection stations for their cars to be certified and issued labels. Vehicles queued at the Meilin Vehicle Inspection Center caused a traffic jam with an average waiting time of one hour. The Huanggang Vehicle Inspection Center waiting time was three hours.
Inspection applications have to increase to 150 vehicles a day since May 7 from the previous 50 vehicles in the past. The stations also extended their working hours to 7 pm. Drivers had no choice but to wait out the lines since they need their cars to be inspected so they can enter the city or face a fine.
