Men’s Care Day set in October
This coming October 28 will be declared as Men’s Care Day in Shenzhen. On this day adult men can take a half day off in accordance to a drafted regulation in gender equality. The regulation was made by the city’s women’s federation and was submitted to the city legislature for approval.
The draft also include proposal that will extend the existing paternal leave from the previous ten days to thirty days to all new fathers. When this draft will push through it will be the first city to offer a 30 day paternal leave. The draft also introduces a flexible retirement plan for all professional women. Women working as a associate professor or above can choose continue to work even when they reached the required retirement age.
Four years was devoted in drafting the regulation, through seminars, symposiums and inspections. And when this regulation will be approved this will be he first of its kind that will govern gender equality.
