Commuters Can Now Pay Fares Using Mobile Phones
Starting today, Shenzhen commuters can use their mobile phones to pay for their daily bus and Metro fares. Commuters just need to install an RFID SIM card costing 100 yuan at any China Mobile outlet located in Shenzhen.
The users can recharge the trans-card accounts by using China Mobile’s 29 service centers by using cash. Users will also need to maintain a balance of 1,000 yuan. Transcard users can check all of their transaction records and account balances by using their phone. However, the trans-card service is not applicable to iPhone users, but China Mobile is studying ways to make the RFID SIM card compatible with the iPhone and the technology should be available by the end of the year.
With the mobile purse service already in operation, residents can now use their mobile phones at supermarkets, convenience stores and cinemas that have signed partnerships with the telecommunications operator. Commuters can also pay using their mobile phones in 350 taxis and 100 electric buses
