New City University proposal awaits approval

New City University proposal awaits approval A proposal to build a city university submitted by a political adviser is now approved by the education authorities. Jin Xinyi, a city advisory member received feedback from the education bureau that they are awaiting government approval. Once approved construction of the new university will start.

Proposal to establish a new Shenzhen City University was first made in 2007 but there was no progress seen four years after it was submitted. Then in March last year, Shenzhen University announced that they will be setting up a new city college and will be based on the existing normal college to help cope up with the growing number of students that are interested in getting higher education.

Recently Shenzhen University is straining to control enrollment expansion, and experts say that building a new city college under the existing Shenzhen University is not the solution since it will be sing university resources and finances were already tight.

Setting up an independent university was the best solution to address the problem in which the education bureau quickly agreed. The bureau then proceeded to include the new university in it 12 five year education programs. The bureau then will work together with other government agencies to ensure the project would go smoothly.
