Seven Days of Public Holidays During the Universiade
Shenzhen announced that they will be declaring a seven day public holiday during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Universiade games this August. The holidays will be divided into two portions.
The first set will be on August 11-14 with the second one on August 22-24. The Universiade games are scheduled for August 12 to 23. Starting August 4th, Shenzhen traffic police will be imposing traffic restrictions by using the odd and even numbered plate scheme system to control the traffic coming in and out of the Universiade venues. This will also control the flow of cars during alternating days.
Traffic restrictions will be imposed from 7 am until 8 pm in the business districts and the ban will be extended until midnight during the opening and closing days of the Universiade games. Traffic police hope that the restrictions will keep around 800,000 vehicles off the road, especially during the busiest times of the games.
Vehicles with yellow labels will be banned and drivers are subject to emission tests and fined 300 yuan, government vehicles are not exempted and will also be banned, in addition the traffic police are encouraging the public to take public transport to relieve congestion and improve air quality.
