More Metro Lines to be Constructed After Universiade
A third phase of the Metro lines will be constructed after the Universiade games have concluded in August. The third phase consists of line 6 to 12 and an extension of Line 4. The additional lines will connect the eastern side of the city and covers more residential areas in the central and western parts of the city.
Three of the additional lines will be constructed through innovative investment modes such as build operate and transfer mode. The construction of the three lines is set to commence in September with each line costing 20 billion yuan. Line 11 will start from the Futian CBD and will stretch 51 kilometers to Songgang passing through three districts. The shorter line 9 runs 25 kilometers and will cover Xiangxi to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint. Line 7 is to be 30 kilometers long and will run from Tai’an to Shenzhen Safari Park, passing through downtown Shenzhen.
When line 8 construction finishes in 2016, the 26 kilometer line will take tourists and holidaymakers from the International Trade Plaza to Xiaomeisha beach in Yantian District passing Liantiang, Shatoujiao and downtown Yantian. Five metro lines are scheduled to open this month and when open their total length will reach 156 kilometers and carry a total of two million passengers.
